Speaker 1:

Welcome to season three. Oh my gosh, I'm so super excited because I've had a lot of like I don't know ah-has, I should say, in the last year between some of the different coaches that I've had, and I really, really, really I know I've talked about my story, my journey, how everything came about, how I ended up back in breast cancer, how I ended up back in real estate to really, really dive into helping more breast cancer survivors. Now you're probably saying how on earth is that happening? How are you doing real estate and breast cancer? And like, how do they, you know, work with one another? Well, truth be told, how that works hand in hand is because I literally found my purpose at the intersection of passion and pain, and for me to be able to host this podcast is just a platform for me to leverage to be able to help other survivors. It gives them a platform to tell their story. It gives a platform for other caregivers and other healthcare professionals to share their you know ins and outs of the breast cancer journey as well, but also through every transaction that I do, I actually give back to breast cancer.

Speaker 1:

And breast cancer is just a diagnosis. It's not, it's not your identity, it's not anything other than it's a diagnosis, and what you do with that is up to you. And for me personally, I found that as a challenge to okay, this is a way for me to, you know, create a better version of myself, and this this season and season three, because I know I've spent a lot of time just really only discussing like other thrivers and their and their stories and like what they're doing to give back as well. But I wanted to kind of encompass some more, like like business tips and like because those actually did help me, like create a better version of me and like get back into why I feel like my purpose is so much bigger and why I want to be able to, you know, kind of share those with you and different things that I've learned. So, with that being said, I didn't make sure I wrote some notes because, you know, I can tend to squirrele out a little bit.

Speaker 1:

So there's a few other podcasts that I like to listen to as well. Truth be told, I don't even like to listen to my own voice, so I don't listen to my podcast on a regular basis. I know that probably sounds really weird, right? I love listening to business podcasts and I love listening to, like, self development things like that. I love Mel Robbins, love her, and I'm so super excited because she is going to be one of our speakers at our family reunion on Vegas next month, so I'm really excited about that.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so I wanted to share with you some things that I've learned on another podcast that I listened to, which is the Millionaire Real Estate Agent. It's also a great book and you don't necessarily have to be a realtor. It's really just about life and, you know, creating a bigger purpose for yourself, right? And Gary Keller is like a phenomenal human being, like his thoughts is personal and business and everything is like really, really, really awesome. So I wanted to share some things from an episode that I thought would be fantastic to share with you, because it's the beginning of the year.

Speaker 1:

And what do we do at the beginning of the year? Well, we always talk about goals and resolutions and all of those things. Fun fact, I don't believe in resolutions, I do believe in goal setting and I do believe in goal setting on a higher level, not just for the week, the month, the year. And we're going to kind of talk about that in this episode because it's going to be reflecting on you and your bigger goals and your bigger, bigger, wise. And in addition to that, I actually had a session with a coach. His name is Jeff Glover. He's out of Michigan, he, too, is a realtor, has a big team, but he came and spoke at our ALC retreat today, which is Agent Leadership Council, which I was honored and blessed to be asked to be on that this year. We're our market center, so I'm really excited about that and I'm always looking for ways to just grow and be a better leader, a better person, and find out ways that I can help other people become that as well.

Speaker 1:

So first let me dive into a couple of things. Being that it's the new year let's talk about Gary Keller has 10 questions that he believes everyone should ask themselves at the end of the year, beginning of the new year, whatever that may be, and I wanted to share those with you because I thought they were really cool. So they're not necessarily my questions per se, but they do pertain to a lot of my thought process and I just kind of wanted to tie it into who we are right, like who we are as a person. So fun fact if you did not know most people who set goals, you know, I want to lose weight, I want to get to the gym, I want to eat healthier. La, la, la, la, la. Most of those goals are abandoned by March. How's that for a fun fact. That's actually like 60 to 90 days, right? So they do say it takes 90 days to create a habit, anyway, so let's think bigger about ourselves and our lives and our goals, all right.

Speaker 1:

So if we're going to be thinking bigger about ourselves, instead of thinking about a goal for the year, let's think about a vision, a goal that you have for yourself for, like, the next 30 years, whether that's going to be personal, spiritual, relationships, business, whatever that's going to be. Let's look at that. Like. What does that look like in 30 years. And if you're like me and you're like I'm 51, I don't know what it's going to look like in 30 years, well, you know what? Then cut it to 20, whatever. However old you are, figure it out. Like I already am at this point I'm like I'm on the second half of my life, like how is this going to look? But I do think I'll be around in another 30 years, so I can plan that. So that means I'll be 81. And where can I see myself? Well, my dad is 81 right now and he's a freaking rock star. He's riding his bike, he's traveling all over the world, he loves to go camping and hiking and everything. So I got this, so I'm going to have a kajin still, anyway.

Speaker 1:

So what are those goals? Let's think about like long-term alignment, like where do you see yourself in 30 years? Like, what will you be doing? What will you look like? What will you be, you know? Will you be vacationing? Will you be retired? Will you still be? You know what will that be? Will you still be working at the same job that you're currently working at, or will you have branched off and started your own business, became an entrepreneur, which I really thrive for all of you. I think it's fantastic. It's you know what? It's not for everyone, because it's a lot, a lot, a lot of work. It's a lot of hard work, anyway.

Speaker 1:

So first question is Gary has is who are you Like? Not your name, like. I'm Shannon Brose. That's not who I am, that's my name, which, by the way, it's my married name. So there's that Like, who are you Like? Who are you in your core Like, at the end of the day, who are you Like? What do you stand for? Because you know, if you don't know what you stand for, then you're going to end up living up to whatever someone else says. You are their expectations of you and you're not living your best life. You're living someone else's life and nobody wants to do that, okay. Second question is and if you don't have a notepad by now, you might want to grab one, because I have a lot of nuggets that I want to cover in here for you and I'm really excited about it because I really, really, really want this year to be amazing for you.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what do you believe? What do you believe in, like, what do you feel? Gary says anything is possible and everything can be solved. I say everything is figure outable because I think everything is figure outable. It really is, and I'm also the person that says if you have a problem and you come to me with a problem, you better have a solution to back it up or we will be having a discussion to find that solution, because I'm not always going to be the problem solver. I want to help you solve the problem on your own, just like my child.

Speaker 1:

Okay, also, what motivates you Like, not your big why, because that tends to be a little bit more like oh, what's your why? And your why changes, right, your why will change always. So what is it that motivates you? What gets you out of bed? What motivates you to really like, dive in, to like the nitty gritty and work your butt off to do the things that you want to do, to do all the things. And then next question is why do you work so hard? And if you're not working so hard, why aren't you? Why are you not working hard? You're not giving your full potential for life? Like, that's crazy, that's insane to me. Like you have one life, freaking, live it to the top, because you only get one. That's it, and you don't have tomorrow. You only have right now, Today, one of my word for this year.

Speaker 1:

Side note my word for this year is intentional, so I want to be intentional, more intentional, about the things that I'm doing. Most importantly, my time and know is going to be coming out of my mouth a lot more than yes, yes, I can, yes, I can, yes, I can, but am I going to? Because? Is that going to really align with my goals and what I want to do? I don't know. If it's not, I'm not going to do it, because life is short and I have 30 years to do the things that I want to do.

Speaker 1:

Okay, next question is what is enough, enough and whatever that is like, whether it's a relationship, whether it's, you know, exercise, and whether it's the job that you're at. Maybe you hate your freaking job and you're like you know what, peace out, I'm out. You know what's funny? I was going through my Google drive trying to clear it out because I have too much storage, I don't like it's full and I found a document that I was working on in 2020. No, it was a 20. I think it was 2019. And I said for April of 2020 that I wanted to be done and move back on to serving my purpose. And I kid you not, it was April of 2020. I was like hell, yeah, girl, subconsciously I actually forgot that. I actually wrote that down on paper, well, typed it out on paper.

Speaker 1:

Anyway, when is enough enough? Like, when are you going to say no? When are you going to say yes? When are you going to do the things that are going to serve you and your goals and your dreams right To create a better version of you? Number six what do you want to be in control of?

Speaker 1:

This is funny because I am a recovery and perfectionist and control freak. So when I was diagnosed with cancer, with breast cancer, I was like, oh crap, I really need to slow my roll because I am really actually not in charge of everything. I'm not in control of everything as much as I think I am, as much as I wanted to be. Like, at the end of the day, the only things that you have control over are your words, your actions and your reactions. Right, and here's something to ponder Time. We all are given 24 hours in a day. This goes back to me saying no some more.

Speaker 1:

I want to be more intentional with my time blocking, more intentional with the conversations that I have, more intentions with the interactions that I have and more intentional with my giving back and helping others. I think I do a really good job at it, but I want to be like uber, uber intentional about it. Anyway, you can't control everything and at the end of the day big picture you're really like totally insignificant not to burst your bubble or like you know whatever, but like you're really insignificant in the big picture of the universe, like you're just one person like and you can't change everything. So why are you going to try? Why, like? Why put that energy into trying to control everything and changing everything when you can just control you? That's it, that's all. As much as you want to control your kids, you guide them, right. Anyway, cancer taught me a lot with that.

Speaker 1:

What else do we have here? Number seven what do you fear, like? What is your fear? Did you know that most people will run away from their problems rather than running towards their pleasure? Think about that one. People will all day long run away from any problem, but they won't run towards what they're passionate about. It's not weird? I don't know. I kind of feel like that's weird. I don't know, I do, sorry. Anyway, number eight what regrets are you trying to avoid?

Speaker 1:

This one was really interesting to me, because regrets I mean I consider and be like you know what. I don't live my life with regrets, because if I did, then that would be like I'd be constantly going, oh, oh, my God, I wish I did this, I wish I did that. Well, you know what. But it's done, it is what it is. They're learning experiences, and what that means is the things that you regret are the things that you had meaning, that had meaning to you after the moment had passed. So I don't necessarily call them a regret, I just call them a lesson. And then hindsight, what I see is that those lessons were for a reason. So I mean, is it relationships? Is it like business opportunities? I don't know. Like, do you live with regrets? I don't know. Think about that. Do you live your life with regrets or do you just say, okay, they were life lessons.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, something to ponder. Like, do you regret having chicken tacos last taco Tuesday rather than having steak tacos or ground beef? Like, no, that's just a decision you made because that's what you freaking wanted at that time, on that day. Hmm, because you're crazy like that. Yeah, okay, number nine how do you bring meaning to your life? Hmm? How do you bring meaning to your life? Work isn't who you are. It's what you do to make the money to do the things that you want to do. So how do you bring meaning to your life? Hmm? And last question is who are you in the end?

Speaker 1:

I loved this and it really, really, really sank in with me, because I actually just watched one of my friends go through the process of watching her father pass away and it was really, really, really sad because, at the end of the day, it was actually when I was listening to this podcast that I heard this and I was like, oh my gosh, at the end of the day, like who, who are you in the end? Really? Like that's why I say think about a bigger goal, not just for the year, but like in 30 years. Like, who do you want to be? Like if you're in your deathbed next year which you're not going to be, god willing? Like it is what it is Like, that's that's what you are, who you are. It is like that's it. There's nothing else you can do. But if you know, okay, I have another. Like you know 10, 20, 30 years left in me. Let's play it for that Like where do you see yourself Like if I'm on my deathbed in 30 years?

Speaker 1:

I want to be like I know I had my nonprofit started. I want to know I helped a gazillion cancer survivors navigate their their breast cancer or their any cancer their recovery through bridging that gap between the medical and fitness industries. I'm freaking hell bent on like bridging this gap to the medical and fitness industries because it's redonkulous. Yeah, I said it, it's redonkulous. So I need your help on that, please. Thank you.

Speaker 1:

I want to know that I helped so many people achieve their wealth dreams with real estate. I want to know that I helped so many people achieve their dream of owning a home First time homeowners downsizing, helping their kids build their wealth in real estate. I want to know that I helped so many other realtors elevate their their real estate career. I wanna know that I can help somebody get into real estate if they've never even had the opportunity to do Like. I can help you get into real estate Pretty easy. In fact, I probably can do it for you. I had no charge, anyway, if you have any interest in ever doing that. Anyway, yeah, there's so many options, like I. Just I wanna know that, like I wanna give back to everyone all day long. That's just who I am. I know I need to make money to do that, but it is what it is. So anyway, with that being said, we are going to, while you ponder those 10 questions and you think about them and you go back to them and you write them down and you rewrite them. We're gonna take a break here so we can go ahead and we can give a little time for our sponsored ad for the Shannon Burroughs Group.

Speaker 1:

Here we are Okay. So, like I said, I had the pleasure of being in the room today with Jeff Glover, and he lives by the Unreal Life Formula. That's, his jam is Unreal Life, live the Unreal Life. What does that mean? I don't know. We always say that we wanna live like the best version of ourselves. Right, we wanna live like the best life and your best life? He was so interesting the way he said this. He said your best life is only what you think you know or what someone has told you. Right, like so what? I think my best life would be I don't know whatever. For example, let's just say my best life would be I'd be making a shit ton of money and I'd be sitting on the beach. I could travel whenever, wherever, not have to worry about expenses, because that would be a thing. I'd have my real estate team operating on its own, because my full team would be rocking and rolling.

Speaker 1:

I don't know. I really don't care about cars, so it's not like I have a car dream. My daughter, brylee, would be completely set in regards to her college education being paid for and she would be living a wonderful life and I would be able to help her and guide her to whatever her dreams are and anyway, things like that like what is your best life? Like, what does that best life look like for you? And, of course, it had my bella with me. What does it look like for you?

Speaker 1:

Hmm guess what? You know what he said. He said you're basically limiting yourself bye just saying that you just want to live your best life, like what about beyond? Like you don't know what it's like beyond because you don't know anything else. You only know what you've thought about, like what you think your best life would be, but you don't know what that is beyond. So hopefully you have your pen and paper still, because I'm gonna go through this little thing with you that he did with his little exercise. Words are hard. I'm tired.

Speaker 1:

Gonna go through this little exercise that he did with us and it's kind of like business planning, goal planning, whatever, but like starting I don't know if you've ever done business planning and you get to like your goals and then, like sometimes you end up in like this little hamster wheel and you're like I'm gonna go back, check the boxes, go back, check the boxes, blah, blah, blah. Because that's what we do when we do like just one year goals Check the box done, check the box done rather than being like the bigger picture, right? So there's five boxes and the first box if you're visual, the first box is at the bottom of your piece of paper and we're gonna go up, five boxes total. The first one. The first box is you're gonna put in there the word money and what that is is you're gonna identify all of your needs and wants and discover your cost of living. Okay, what does that number look like? It's gonna be different for everybody, obviously, and I challenge you to double that. So if you are in a job that you only make X amount of dollars because that's your salary, then you're kind of capped and you're kind of limited and therefore you're kind of screwed.

Speaker 1:

If you have big, huge dreams and wants and needs and whatnot, let's just think for a minute, like, let's just think, pretend you're on your own because I want to empower a woman to have their own shit. You know what I mean. I'm saying anyway. I mean, obviously have your joints up, but I'm just saying like it's good to like have your own thing so you can do your thing, what you want, right? So identify your needs and wants.

Speaker 1:

Here's the beautiful thing about real estate you're never capped. You're never capped the amount of money that you can make, and you've heard me say before I do believe that everyone should have multiple streams of income. So, whether you're thinking about doing that little side hustle, do it. If you're thinking about doing this other little side, hustle, find your passion, do it, do the things Anyway. So money is the first one, and if you don't have enough of it, then you gotta make more. That's why I say have multiple streams, okay.

Speaker 1:

The next box is going to be transactions. Now, this is geared towards real estate, but you can gear it towards anything. Whether you're in sales of some sort, whether I mean, let's be real, like everything is sales, right, it's just what you're selling. What's the commodity that you're selling? You're selling houses, you're selling cars, you're selling books, you're selling I don't know therapy sessions, doctors, I don't know, whatever. You're selling something, everyone's selling something. So that's basically your business plan for any business. So, like, you need to sell X number of things to make X, y and Z, right. So that's your number of transactions. So basically, like, we'll just use run numbers. So if you wanted to make $100,000 and you have so many transactions and let's say your transaction is $100 of transaction whatever, so how many do you need to sell? How many of those do you need to sell? That's the number of transactions that you need to do, whatever. That is, however many, that is, whether it's if you're in three different income streams or whatever.

Speaker 1:

Next one this is fun. The next one, the box is options. This one was kind of cool, so this is like equivalent to your vision board. So what are the places that you want to go? Do not we're not limiting ourselves Like write all the things down, like the things you want to do, the investments that you want to make, things you want to have, or maybe things that you want to experience, experiences that you want to have with yourself, with your family, friends, loved ones, whatever. What are the things that you want? They're just options wants. Next one is that.

Speaker 1:

Fourth box is your best self. Write down traits, habits, characteristics of those that you admire and want to take on yourself. It was pretty interesting when we did this, because the first thing that came to my mind was Princess Diana. She's always been my role model. I've loved her. I was crushed when she died. I remember watching the funeral on TV. I just think that that woman had like the biggest heart, the kindest person, and I wanted to be here. All I wanted to do was philanthropy work, for since I was young when she died, and that's why I think I strive so hard to do those things because I just love it. I mean, I love that. I also love Mel Robbins, which is what I'm really super excited to see here. There's a lot of people that are like but anyway, think about what those traits, habits and characteristics are and, you know, mold yourself into that.

Speaker 1:

Then the next one is called the box is your unreal life. And the unreal life is defined as something so amazing it's almost unbelievable. Hmm, hmm, you don't even know what that looks like. Ha ha ha. I love that. You don't even know what that looks like. I don't either, but that's why we had to do this exercise. So it is really, really, really cool. And then you just take that and you look at it every single day and that is what you can tie in to what I talked about at the beginning of this episode of answering those questions and who are you at the end? Who are you at the end and what does that unreal life look like for you? What you think? That's a little bit different than our standard podcast of talking about my cancer's journey or someone else's cancer journey, but it actually did.

Speaker 1:

It's one of those things that has me busting out of breast cancer, because it's really making me become a better version of myself. Ha yeah, and it's 2024 and I like even numbers, so, and it's a leap year. That sounds fun, right? Oh, did you know what I heard? I heard that if you're getting married in this sleep here, it's a lucky year. So if you know somebody getting married this year, it's going to be their lucky year. Anyway, that's. Those are my little nuggets that I really, really, really wanted to share with you. I apologize for my little hiatus that I had. It was the holidays and everything, so I took a little time off.
